As well, Traian Basescu was congratulated on the occasion of his re-election by the President of Turkey, Abdullah Gull, and by Viktor Orban, the President of the opposition party in Hungary, FIDESZ.
In his message, British Premier Gordon Brown said that, after the Revolution of 1989, Traian Basescu is the first president winning a second consecutive mandate.
“I look forward with interest to continue our collaboration in many important fields Great Britain and Romania have common interests.
Within the European Union we have similar stands as for combating the global economic crisis, the EU strategy for growth and jobs, the answer to the challenges provoked by climatic changes and the energy security, the construction of a stability zone in West Balkans, the Republic of Moldova and Caucasus, as well as the promotion of the EU enlargement, including to Turkey”, the British Premier says in his message.
As well, Gordon Brown said he was satisfied by the fact that Romania joined the enhanced engagement for Afghanistan.
“You received a mandate for the continuation of decisive actions of justice reform, these reforms securing a significant progress in the fight against corruption and a boosted performance in the judiciary field.
You can count on our full support in this field. We also appreciate the close cooperation relation in activities of combating criminality. We wish you ever success in the second mandate as President”, Gordon Brown also said.
At the same time, the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, and the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, congratulated Traian Base scu for his re – election as President of Romania.
