“I am honored to convey my congratulations for winning a new mandate as Romania’s President. Romanians invested once again their trust in you in order to solve the issues in these difficult times, to help them to fulfill their ideals. Almost three years since their European Union accession, Romanians, the same as my compatriots in Poland, expect to value their integration into the big European family and your election for a new mandate is the proof of their trust you have won in the past five years”, says Buzek in the letter sent to Traian Basescu.
According to EP President, Basescu will have a difficult task as Romania’s President given the specific current economic conditions all over the world, but also the many opportunities to change for the better people’s life.
“I noticed during the meetings in Brussels your capacity as negotiator and promoter of the Romanian values and aspirations. I wish you further promote Romanians’ interest and their European vocation”, underlined EP President in his letter.
In his turn, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barroso congratulated Traian Basescu for his election for the second mandate as Romania’s President. “I look forward to your firm support for the European project, because we seek to consolidate what we have achieved so far and to deal with the economic challenges ahead.
I would like to express the European Commission’s pledge for further support and solidarity with Romania”, said Jose Manuel Barroso in his message.
EC President also appreciated that the first and the immediate of Romania’s President is to form a new government, “capable to reunite a large support in the Parliament”. “A consensual and inclusive approach is the most important in this difficult period. I am convinced that you will continue your efforts of the country’s modernization, the Romanian people spelled so clearly”, Barroso also said.
Both Jerzy Buzek and Jose Manuel Barroso are members of the European People’s Party (EPP) political family and the Democrat Liberal Party (PD-L), the political formation supporting Traian Basescu in the presidential elections, is also a member.
Romania’s Constitutional Court (CCR) validated on Monday, December 14, the presidential elections and confirmed that Traian Basescu was elected president.
