‘Romania has been without a government for nearly three months. The economic crisis is not a thing to be managed without a government fully exercising its powers. The elections are over. The major priority is to form a government that should get Parliament’s approval by Christmas, if possible.
The responsibility does not rest with the president alone, but with all the political parties. I see a right- wing government as a political solution’, Basescu stressed. According to him, governance should be political, so that those taking part in it should take responsibility for it.
‘I invite you to take part in governance alongside the Democratic Liberal Party and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania, in agreement with what the voters gave each of these parties. I have no political goals any longer. My priority is the national interest, not the political interest. I want it to be a discussion based on correct political principles. I once again ask you to consider my request of joining the government under the conditions given by the electorate’, Basescu told the Liberal leaders.
