Ford Romania to continue plans for Craiova-based maker

Ford Romania president Dionisio Campos said on Thursday that Ford keeps its plans for the plant in Craiova (southern Romania) and has been working on the infrastructure required to put out 300,000 cars.

According to Ford Romania official, all the departments of the Craiova-based factory will become operational at the end of the first quarter of 2010, when Transit Connect model effectively starts being made in Romania.
As for the number of cars to be manufactured in Craiova, next year, Campos said that at the moment, after the first cars partially made in Craiova rolled out and were already sold, the Company is more interested in the feedback from the buyers, the more so that the European car market is expected to drop to 1.5 – 2 million units, next year.

‘We all know the economic situation, the effects of the economic downturn, which can be seen on all the fields, everywhere. The truth is we remain at the plan wherewith we came here to Craiova. We launched the first car. We make progress to supply the required infrastructure to put out the 300,000 cars we planned. The next year forecast is questionable, i.e. we do not know how the market develops,’ Ford Romania CEO said.
