Parliament observes a minute’s silence in memory of people killed in Dec. 1989 in Timisoara

A symposium devoted to the December 1989 Revolution being held at the Palace of Parliament on Thursday began by a minute’s silence in memory of the people killed in the western Timisoara city on December 17 and also of all those who sacrificed their lives for freedom.

The event organised by the Romanian Revolution Institute was opened by former President Ion Iliescu. Attending the event are Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana, the first Prime Minister of post- December 1989 Romania Petre Roman, participants in the Revolution and political figures. In the beginning of the symposium marking the 20th anniversary of the December 1989 Revolution the participants watched a documentary film showing the most important moments of the days of December 14-21, when Romania toppled the communist rule.
