Gabriel Oprea nominated for National Defence Minister – biography
After graduating the Military School for Professional Officers in Sibiu, he attended the Faculty of Law of Bucharest University (1980-1983). He is a LLD of Bucharest University.
Starting 2000 he was state secretary, president of the National Administration of State Reserves, a deputy director at the National Defence College; the vice-president of the Foundation of the National Defence College. He has been a professor of the National Defence College since 2001.
From 2003 till January 2009 he was a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). Starting 2004 he was a deputy of the southern Ilfov County (south) in Romania’s Parliament, elected on the PSD lists, and re-elected on Nov. 30, 2008. In Jan. 2009 he joined the independent group of the Chamber of Deputies.
