Boc: 2009 was one of most difficult years

Romania has ended one of the most difficult years in 60 years in terms of the economy, Prime Minister designate Emil Boc said in an address to a joint sitting of Parliament on Wednesday on the priorities of his new cabinet.

‘Nevertheless, under such circumstances the government I headed managed to contain the negative effects of the crisis, we managed to not lose the credit rating, the unemployment rate is much lower in Romania than the European Union average. The inflation has started on a downward trend’, Boc said.

He cited among the successes of his former cabinet the go-ahead to the First House Programme, the First Grain Silo Programme and the extension of the Old Car scrappage scheme. ‘I have taken over the prime minister’s mandate in order to do what is necessary for the 22 million Romanians’, Boc stressed.
