EC approves financing for three major transport projects

The European Commission adopted on December 18 the decisions for the financing of three major projects submitted under Priority Axis 2 – “Modernization and development of national transport infrastructure outside the TEN-T priority axes with a view to creating a national sustainable transport system,” a release of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure informs on Wednesday.

The first project called “Upgrading National Road DN24, county border Galati – Vaslui – Crasna and National Road DN24B between Crasna and Albita” is aimed at the rehabilitation of 94.7 18 kilometers of national road running between Galati – Vaslui – Crasna – Albita on a total budget of around 148 million euros, of which 86.6 million euros in non-reimbursable financing made available by the European Commission through the European Regional Development Fund; the rest of the amount will be supplied from the state budget.

The project titled “Upgrading National Road DN1H Zalau – Alesď is aimed at the rehabilitation of 69.334 kilometers of national road between the cities of Zalau and Aleasd. The project has a total budget of 114 million euros assigned, of which 67.26 million euros in non- reimbursable financing coming from the European Commission through the European Regional Development Fund; the rest of the amount will be supplied from the state budget.

The beneficiary of the two aforementioned projects is the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads SA. The objective of the third project called ‘Extension of the Constanta port northern breakwater” is the extension of the northern breakwater of the Constanta port by 1, 050 m, specifically from a length of 4,850 m to 5,900 m.

The project has a total budget of almost 144 million euros earmarked; 57.87 million euros of the amount are non-reimbursable financing disbursed by the European Commission through the European Regional Development Fund. The remaining amount is provided by the state budget. The beneficiary of this project is the ‘Constanta’ National Maritime Ports Administration Company. According to the funding decisions, the three projects are due for completion by the end of 2013.
