Marek Belka: Romania to get IMF money

Marek Belka, the head of the International Monetary Fund’s European Department told Reuters on Wednesday he is confident Romania will get the next tranche of the international bailout package worth 20 billion dollars, after the government approves the austerity budget for 2010.

Romanian Parliament will begin on Jan. 11 the debates on the 2010 budget, seen crucial for the country to get international support via the IMF. Romania is a European Union member country, with a solid and independent central bank, said Belka, who stressed he sees good prospects for Romania in the next quarters of the year.
He argued there should be no problems with the third tranche of the IMF loan. The international lender will send a mission to Romania in January and will check whether the conditions set in the agreement with the IMF are met.
