The car scrappage bonus effective in 2010 under the “Ramshackle” program will be of 3,800 lei (about 894 euros), which is the same nominal value as in 2009, provides the Financing Guide approved by Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely.
According to the document, one, two or three vouchers can be used as of January 1, 2010 in order to acquire a new vehicle. The approved manufacturer discounts the sale price of the new car by the nominal value of the voucher; the difference is covered by the registered owner from his own financial sources – bank loans included – or from a financial leasing contract.
According to data of the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM), the ‘Ramshackle’ program was accomplished to an extent of 65 percent of the 50,000 cars intended for individuals in 2009, with 32,327 vehicles having been dumped. Overall, about 107,000 old cars were scrapped between 2004 – 2009.
