Danube Delta attracts tourists during winter, as well

The Danube Delta maintains over winter its beauty that attracts thousands of tourists, writes Romania Libera daily. One of the most interesting offers launched in December 2009 and valid for the first two months of 2010 consists in Winter Photography in the Danube Delta.

The less ordinary journey lovers, photography fans, as well as the ones who want to change for a few days the stress of the crowded cities for the frozen, yet very fresh air of the swamps and channels of the Delta may opt for fixed-date mini-vacations or for the ones organized during the period of frost.
The target of the photos are the rare bird species and the ones that winter in the Delta.

The predator birds category includes the white-tailed eagle, greater spotted eagle, hawks, and the rare birds species are represented by the tufted duck, red-crested pochard, smew, common merganser, winter geese (lesser and greater white-fronted goose, red-breasted goose). Apart from those, the tourists can immortalize the superb winter landscapes.

At the end of a road that exceeds 2,840 km, the Danube forms for over 16,000 years, before flowing into the Black Sea, one of the most beautiful deltas in Europe and even in the world, also known as one of the planet’s greatest wet areas. Some 1,200 species of trees and plants grow in the Danube Delta, which has Europe’s richest ornithological fauna (more than 300 bird species, including unique colonies of pelicans) and the highest number of fish species, 100.

The Danube Delta is the largest European wetland reservation, covering a 2,681 sq km surface. In 1990, UNESCO included the Danube Delta, the newest relief shape in Romania, protected from the “industrialization progress”, among the biosphere reservations.
