PM Boc: MPs have the final say on constitutional reform

Prime Minister Emil Boc on Monday stressed, before the MPs, they all enjoy, regardless of the legislative chamber to which they belong, the same consideration, while assuring them the final decision related to the constitutional reform will be theirs.

‘I would like all the MPs to understand that, regardless of the legislative chamber to which they belong, either there is the Senate or the Deputies Chamber, they all benefit of the same consideration, with the decision what chamber to cut from the Romanian Parliament to be taken by all of them together,’ said Emil Boc.

The Premier also dismissed such speculation Senate will be the one chamber to be dissolved, following the implementation of the outcome of the referendum on November 22, 2009, saying one chamber will be cut from the Romanian Parliament, alongside with the number of MPs.

‘As regards such speculation Government would prefer Senate be dissolved, let’s check again result of the referendum: it said the number of MPs needs to be cut from 471 to 300, the same as one chamber from the Parliament, either the Senate or the Deputies Chamber. You will be the ones to decide which chamber is going to be cut eventually, you will make the final decision. Therefore, the rumour saying Senate will be the one chamber to vanish couldn’t be otherwise but unfounded,’ said Emil Boc.
