At the same meeting, the Social Democrats will also debate the parliamentary session priorities, BPN meeting being followed by the two PSD parliamentary groups meeting.
Likewise, the main proposals for the modification of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, in opposition) Statute will be discussed, one of the most important referring to the re-establishment of the party’s executive president office.
For the time being, the following four officials announced their wish to candidate for the party’s president position: PSD president Mircea Geoana, senator Miron Mitrea, PSD vice-president Cristian Diaconescu and Andrei Alexandru – spokesman of the former Senate’s Chairman Nicolae Vacaroiu.
Another likely candidacy could be put forward in the person of the National Council president, Adrian Nastase, who said that he is “increasingly determined” to enter the race for PSD president. He added that an announcement to this end will be made during the National Council. On the occasion of the National Executive Council meeting, organized at the beginning of last week, an extraordinary congress of PSD on Feb. 20 was convened in principle. The final date of this congress is to be validated by the National Council.
