Corlatean, ambassador Mo Amaro discuss strengthening bilateral ties between Romania and Uruguay

Chairman of the Romanian Senate’s Committee on Foreign Policy Titus Corlatean on Tuesday welcomed ambassador of Uruguay in Bucharest Pedro Mo Amaro to discuss strengthening political ties and promoting business projects between Romania and Latin American countries in the current favourable context of Spain holding the rotating presidency of the European Union.

Corlatean and Mo Amaro pointed to a still low level of trade between Romania and Uruguay despite their economic potentials for cooperation, the Committee on Foreign Policy reports in a press release issued on Tuesday. Social-Democratic Corlatean is reported to have voiced Romania’s readiness to join Latin American and European partners in successfully conducting the EU- Latin America and the Caribbean Summit, to be organised by the Spanish Presidency of the EU this May in Madrid.

Mo Amaro voiced hope that the summit will take a step further toward the consolidation of the EU-Latin America strategic partnership. ‘Parliamentary relations may boost cooperation between Romania and Uruguay, as both parties intend to carry out some parliamentary diplomacy actions at the level of the leadership of their parliaments and parliamentary committees on foreign affairs, in 2010-2011,’ reads the release.
