Warning strike of public administration employees countrywide

More than 44,000 public administration employees cease work for two hours on Tuesday in a warning strike. The National Federation of Unions in Administration (FNSA) is organizing this warning strike starting 8.30 a.m. through 10.30 a.m.

The municipal town halls and county councils in Cluj, Constanta, Iasi, Timisoara, Brasov, Targu Mures, Baia Mare, Pitesti, Sibiu, Oradea, Arad, Piatra Neamt, Botosani, Bacau, Tulcea, Deva, Bucharest municipality and in more than 200 localities, municipalities, towns or communes will cease activity.

The conflict was propelled by wage reductions, planned layoffs and repeated breaches of the constitutional principles regarding collective negotiations, as well as for the local authorities’ right to manage their own financial resources based on the local and financial autonomy principle. On Feb. 9, the unionists will picket the Labor Ministry and the Ministry of Administration and Interior and, on Feb. 12, they would go on an indefinite general strike, if the government fails to bring a solution to their grievances.
