“We have established a timetable, according to which Bechtel already received 16 million euros in Jan., another 133 million euros will be transferred in Feb. and, on a monthly basis, the remainder till all the works made in 2009 are covered. As for the timetable this year, we are still negotiating, to find out funding formulas because there is no state budget money for this kind of works”, explained CNADNR director, reacting to Bechtel announcement of starting the layoffs programme.
American constructor Bechtel admitted on Wednesday that it is examining a programme of collective redundancies because it has no funds and the needed working front to continue at the same pace as last year , and that the employees to be laid off will receive two monthly basic wages in compensation. “The absence of the payment unavoidably affects the liquidity flow and our capacity to fairly planning future works.
On the other hand, CNADNR is facing other difficulties as the free access and without obstacles to the needed land on a considerable surface. We are to substantially cut the construction activities programme of this motorway and take into account collective redundancies”, Bechtel informs in a release.
“We regret that we must take into consideration such a measure. We will continue consultations with the trade unions, seeking solutions to cut the layoffs number”, stressed the manager of Transilvania motorway project Michael Swinford.
The Americans maintain that, currently, there are overdue significant financial obligations, failed to be honored so far. As well, CNADNR could not offer information on the available funds in 2010 for the payment of works, set to be carried out this year.
