Blizzards close down 16 national roads, two highways

As many as 16 national roads and the A1 Bucharest-Pitesti highway are still closed due to snow and blizzards, and so is the Bucharest-Drajna section of A2 highway, the Romanian Police Info-traffic Centre reports.

According to the Romanian National Company for Highways and National Roads (CNADNR), the national roads where traffic is stopped due to unfavourable weather conditions are DN2A Urziceni – Slobozia (Ialomita county), DN 22 Ramnicu Sarat – Braila and DN2C Costesti – Padina (Buzau county), DN 23B Maicanesti – Ciorasti (Vrancea county), DN1D Urziceni (Ialomita county), all in the southeastern Romania, Albesti (Prahova county), DN51A Zimnicea – Piatra and DN65E Rosiori de Vede – Piatra (Teleorman county), DN41 Chirnogi (Calarasi county) – Daia (Giurgiu county), DN65A Buzoesti (Arges county) – Balaci (Teleorman county), all in the south of Romania.

In Bucharest, road traffic is carried out under winter conditions on most main streets due to the snow ploughing operation conducted all night long, Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu told a Winter Command session.
Bucharest Police spokesperson Christian Ciocan said that over the past 24 hours, 37 car collisions have been recorded and Road Brigade teams assure entrance to and exit from the city by banning the passage of motor vehicles that exceed 3.5 tonnes, in order to avoid traffic jams.
