Hundreds of lorries jammed near Giurgiu-Ruse borderline

Hundreds of lorries are waiting near the Giurgiu-Ruise borderline between Romania and Bulgaria, for traffic jam to clear and traffic restrictions to be lifted for motor vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes.

The lorry drivers halted in traffic were given hot tea by Gendarmes and Police officers, but they are eager to see the restrictions lifted and continue with their route.
In the southern county of Giurgiu, which is under an orange code for heavy snow and blizzards, snow continues to fall, laying down half a meter deep. Snowdrifts in wind-swept areas have reached even two metres high.

Data with the CNADNR national road administration show that snow has blocked off two national roads – DN41 and DN 5B, and 18 county roads. Moreover, 16 localities were left without electricity and two ambulances got stuck in the snow, which has been pouring down for nearly 30 hours in Giurgiu County.
