280 Maneuver Battalion returns from Afghanistan

National Defense Minister Gabriel Oprea, on Friday, welcomed, with solemn military ceremonial, the military of the 280th Maneuver Battalion who came back home after six months of the ISAF III-TASK FORCE mission, in Zabul, Afghanistan.

‘Congratulations for the exemplary way you have fulfilled your mission in Afghanistan. I feel honoured to attend your homecoming ceremony and stand in front of a battalion of elite fighters,’ Defense Minister Oprea said.
He also expressed his satisfaction that all the military of the Battalion returned safe and sound, the more that nine of them had been injured during the mission.

During their 6-­month mission, over June 2009 and Jan. 2010, the 400 military of the 280th Maneuver Battalion, all from the Vrancea County (east), were conducting about 5,000 missions in the responsibility area of Zabul province, mainly consisting in securing the access roads and several important objectives, as well as in organizing traffic check-points.

The Battalion’s military were also conducting missions in the operation theaters in Kosovo, between Nov. 2002-Oct. 2003, in Iraq over Jan.-Jul. 2006, and in Afghanistan, Jan­-Jul. 2004.
