Romania’s population drops in number by over 7,800 in December 2009

Romania’s population dropped in number by 7,865 in December 2009 as against the previous month, a phenomenon brought about by the diminution of the number of babies that were born alive in every 1,000 inhabitants, say the operative data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Friday.

According to the above-mentioned source, in December last year, 17,198 babies were born (9.4 born alive in every 1,000 inhabitants), less by 108 than in November.
On the other hand the number of people who died in December was 25,063 (13.7 dead in every 1,000 inhabitants), more by 3,133 as against the previous time span.
Because of the larger number of dead people as against of the number of the babies who were born alive, the number of the population dropped by 7,865 in December.

The INS data reveal that the number of the children under one year of age who died in December was 200, more than in November, the ratio being 11.6 children under one year of age in every 1,000 children that were born alive.
As for the number of marriages and divorces, the INS research shows that, in the last month of 2009, the registrar’s offices reported 4,701 marriages and 2,274 divorces.

Related to the last month of 2008, in December 2009 the number of babies that were born alive was smaller by 743, and the number of the dead was larger by 1,941.
In December 2009 too the number of the population dropped by 7,865 whereas in the similar time span of 2008 it dropped by 5,183. The demographic data for 2008 are final and the ones for 2009 are operative.
