Volume of construction works down 15 pct in 2009

Volume of construction works, unadjusted series, fell 15.1 percent in 2009 compared to 2008, according to provisional data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Capital repair works declined 24.1 percent, new construction works slid 13.8 percent and maintenance and current repair works dipped 13.2 percent in 2009, compared to 2008.
Volume of construction works decreased on the residential buildings segment by 20.2 percent, on the non-residential segment by 15.7 percent, while engineering constructions dipped by 12.2 percent in 2009, against the previous year.

In December 2009, versus the same month a year earlier, the volume of construction works decreased by 6.9 percent, unadjusted series. Construction works fell in November 16.4 percent and capital repair works 8.9 percent. Maintenance and current repair works jumped 22.6 percent.
Volume of construction works saw a decline on the residential buildings segment, by 40.8 percent, while non-residential buildings went down 7.1 percent. The engineering constructions segment recorded 11.2 percent growth.

Volume of construction works, adjusted series, depending on the number of days worked and seasonality, dropped in December 2009, compared to December 2008, by 13.1 percent.
Volume of construction works dropped on all components in residential buildings, by 40.9 percent, in non-residential buildings by 16.3 percent and in engineering constructions, by 0.4 percent.
