Basescu, Ghimpu discuss common matters in phone call

Romanian President Traian Basescu and Republic of Moldova’s interim President Mihai Ghimpu talked over the phone late on Saturday on the common projects of Chisinau and Bucharest that were agreed upon during the recent visit paid by Basescu to Moldova, Moldpres news agency quotes the Moldovan Parliament’s press office as announcing on Monday.

Basescu told Ghimpu that two of the projects discussed in Chisinau are already being implemented, namely the opening of a bridge over the Prut river at Radauti-Lipcani and the Romanian Government’s approval on Feb. 10 of an urgent act granting the Republic of Moldova non-repayable financial support from Romania worth 100 million euros to be disbursed over four years.

The Romanian leader also announced that the other projects agreed upon during his visit to Chisinau at the end of January are getting the final touches and they will be conducted as scheduled.

Ghimpu thanked the Romanian president for the constant support given the Republic of Moldova’s efforts for making its society democratic and for taking the steps required for its European integration; he announced his Romanian counterpart that he had asked the Government to draw up a concrete action plan, with real implementation deadlines for the projects initiated between Chisinau and Bucharest.
