CEC Bank assets up by 53.6 pct

CEC Bank assets went up by 53.6 percent in 2009, amounting to 20.9 billion lei compared with 13.6 billion lei in December 2008, according to the data presented on Tuesday by head of SME Division Doina Topala at a financial conference (1 euro=4.1 lei).

The total loans increased over the reference period from 8.1 billion lei to 9.2 billion lei, but their percentage out of the total assets dropped from 59.64 percent to 43.95 percent. The loans granted to companies grew from 2.9 billion lei in 2008 to 4.2 billion lei in 2009, and their percentage out of the total loans went up from 36 to 45.91 percent.

Out of the loans granted to companies, 89 percent were for SMEs, 4 percent for the local public management authority, and 7 percent for big companies. Last year, CEC Bank restructured roughly 520 loans amounting to 530 million lei, but the provisioning rate (provisions are set up for non-performing loans) was 5.9 percent, under the banking system average of 7.47 percent, said Topala.

The loan restructuring modalities used by CEC Bank included the extension of the maturity schedule, amending the payment amounts, granting a grace period of up to 12 months, inclusion of the overdue payments into the balance.
