Frost afflicts 5 percent of cropland sown last autumn

Frost has afflicted 55,200 ha, representing over 5 percent of the total fields sown last autumn, more than half being sown with wheat and rye, read data the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR).

As many as 3.096 million ha were sown, 2.075 of them with wheat and rye, in autumn, 2009. According to the MADR data, a precise situation of the sown fields that the frost has ruined, will be available only in April, when the crops start growing.
Weather Forecast Company official Elena Mateescu has recently said that the latest heavy snow and rainfalls have been particularly beneficial for the autumn-sown wheat, in terms of soil’s humidity, currently registering almost optimal values, throughout the country.
