Mircea Geoana would get 43 percent of PSD voters’ options (CURS poll)

Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana is the favourite of most PSD voters for the position of leader of the above-mentioned political group, according to an opinion poll carried out by the Centre of Urban and Regional Sociology (CURS), whose results were made known on Thursday.

Forty-three percent of the poll respondents, who said they were PSD voters, and 30 percent of all the polled think that Mircea Geoana should be elected PSD chairman by the Congress on February 20.

Second comes chairman of the PSD National Council Adrian Nastase, with 28 percent of the Social Democrat voters’ options and 21 percent of the ones of the entire sample, followed by vice-chairman Cristian Diaconescu, 10 percent of the PSD voters’ options and 15 percent of the ones of all the polled, vice-chairman Victor Ponta, 8 percent of the PSD voters’ options and 13 percent of the ones of the sample of respondents, Senator Miron Mitrea, 3 percent of the PSD voters’ options and 3 percent of the ones of the entire sample, general secretary of the group Liviu Dragnea, 2 percent of the options both of the PSD voters and of the entire sample.

Four percent of the PSD voters and 14 percent of all the polled do not know or do not answer this question. The Innovation and Development Projects Institute asked CURS to conduct a national poll on economic, social and political topics. The poll was carried out over February 4-14 on a sample of 3,000 people, aged 18 and over 18, in the urban and rural environment.
