Romanians are still most numerous foreign community in Italy

The almost one million Romanians that officially live in Italy still make up the most numerous foreign community in the peninsula, according to the data published by the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) on Thursday.

On January 1, 2010 the Romanian community consisted of 953,000 people, accoutring for 22 percent of the total number of foreigners, being followed by the Albanians (472,000) and the Moroccans (433,000). The three communities taken together account for over 43 percent of the total number of 4.3 million foreign citizens residing in Italy, according to the Istat data. Foreign citizens account for over 7 percent of the total population of Italy, which numbers 60.3 million inhabitants.
