Mrs Joelle Garriaud-Maylam is the representative of the French living outside France and rapporteur of the French Parliament in the field of the French-Romanian cooperation in the protection of unaccompanied Romanian minors on the French territory. Ambassador of France in Bucharest Henri Paul also attended the meeting.
During the discussions the two sides stressed the prevention work performed by the Romanian Police, the French side appreciating the initiatives, campaigns and results of the activity carried out by the National Agency against Human Trafficking.
At the same time, the officials highlighted the partnership between Romania and France, both in the field of the struggle against organized crime, as well as with respect to the data exchange between the Romanian Police, the French National Police and the French Gendarmerie, accomplished by means of the International Police Cooperation Centre – Focal National Point.
Mrs Joelle Garriaud-Maylam had a meeting on Thursday with Justice Ministry Secretary of State Rodica Constantinovici, with whom she had discussed the ratification by the French Parliament of a cooperation agreement between the two Governments, for the protection of unaccompanied Romanian minors on the French territory and for their return to their country of origin, as well as for the struggle against minor exploitation networks. The agreement was signed in Bucharest, on February 1, 2007 and was approved by the Romanian Government on October 10, 2007.
Both delegations underlined the importance of enforcing the agreement and of continuing the bilateral cooperation within the Operational Connection Group between Romania and France, whose activity was appreciated both by the Romanian side, as well as by the French side as being especially useful in quickly solving the situation of the Romanian minors in difficulty on the territory of France.
