Romanian troop is injured in Afghanistan

A troop of the Romanian 33rd Manoeuvre Battalion on mission in Afghanistan was injured at around 5 a.m. (Romanian time) on Friday, the National Defence Ministry announced.

NCO Eugen Manaila sustained a leg injury when his HMMWV (Humvee) vehicle rolled over a makeshift bomb while on a patrolling mission on A1 highway linking Kabul to Kandahar, some 20 km south-west of Qalat, Zabul province. The Romanian military was urgently flown by a medical helicopter to the hospital at Lagman base, where he had surgery and later he was carried to Kandahar military hospital.

He is in a stable condition, the ministry said. National Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea and Army chief of staff Admiral Gheorghe Marin closely watch how the troop’s state of health develops, the release said.
