Lidl Romania takes over Romania and Bulgaria-based Plus retail business

Lidl Romania, a member of German group Schwarz, will take over companies Plus Romania and Plus Bulgaria in a deal that needs the approval of the competition authorities in order to be finalized, reads a company release.

By acquiring the Plus companies in Romania and Bulgaria, Lidl takes over the entire Plus business in these two countries and the entire personnel as well.
In Romania, Plus currently operates a network of 94 stores and also owns 16 outlets in Bulgaria. Last year Lidl announced plans to open about new 50 stores in Romania, in early 2010.

This move is supposed to promote Lidl to the top position on the market of discount stores, as the company is expected to run over 150 outlets in a few months. Lindl plans to enter the Bulgarian market in spring 2010.
In 2007 and 2008 Plus sold its business in most European countries. In recent years, Plus operated in Austria, Romania and Bulgaria. Lidl Romania is a member of the German group Schwarz that also owns the Kaufland hypermarket network in Romania.
