Oil imports down by 18 percent in 2009

In 2009 Romania imported crude oil amounting to 6.894 million tonnes of oil equivalent, by 1,525 million tonnes of oil equivalent (18.1 percent) less than the previous year, according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics.

Last year the oil production totalled 4.195 million tonnes of oil equivalent and was by 4.5 percent (199,400 tonnes of oil equivalent) lower than the one in 2008.
In 2008 Romania came eighth in the classification of oil producers in Europe and Eurasia, with 99,000 barrels of oil a day, which accounts for 0.1 percent of the world output, according to statistics of British Petroleum.

The oil consumption in Romania increased in 2008 by 2.2 percent as against the previous year and amounted to 227,000 barrels a day (0.3 percent of the world consumption). According to British Petroleum statistics, Romania’s oil reserve amount to 500 million barrels, down by half from the one in late 1988, which was 1.2 billion barrels.
