Stockholm-based ICR Director to preside August Prize jury

The Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Stockholm Dan Shafran, a translator and a librarian of Sweden’s National Library has been appointed the president of the belletristic section of the August Prize, the Swedish Publishers’ Union’s annual award for Swedish-language literature.

‘The August Prize is the most coveted Swedish literary award and it is given for belletristic categories such as literature for children and youth and for non-fiction, rewarding the best Swedish book of the year, in each domain,’ said Stockholm-based ICR representative Eva Leonte. All the three jury commissions are renewed every year.

Dan Shafran is invited to be a member of the jury for the third year, in a row, being appointed the jury’s president, this time. The August Prize was founded in 1989 by the Association of the Swedish Publishers and is named after the great novelist and playwright August Strindberg.
