The Romanian Government on Tuesday passed a normative act under which the companies hiring unemployed people will be granted a six-month exemption from social security contributions, Prime Minister Emil Boc reported at the end of a meeting of the Government on Tuesday.

‘Romanian citizens’ jobs are and will remain the main concern of the Government. We passed today a normative act under which companies hiring unemployed people will be granted a six-month exemption from social security contributions. We are expecting this measure to generate 50,000 jobs and keep unemployment within manageable limits and create new jobs,’ Boc explained.

Boc mentioned that unemployment in February so far is at 8.1 percent, the same as in January. ‘There has been no unemployment increase so far this month. The number of the unemployed is standing at 745,690,’ said Boc, adding that there is a slight decrease in joblessness when stated in figures. The prime minister also said that the latest measure is thought by the Government to help the Romanian economy, companies and people find jobs easier.
‘This is no isolated measure. It is part of a package of measures to support the Romania business milieu and the Romanian economy and to help them overcome the crisis while preparing them for economic recovery,’ said Boc.
