Labor Minister Seitan: Unemployment rate remained constant in February at 8.1 pct

The unemployment rate reported in January 2010 has remained constant so far, at 8.1 percent, Labor Minister Mihai Seitan told a press conference on Wednesday. ‘There were no rises this month, at least until 20 or 21 February.

There has even been registered a slight decrease. But let just say it remained constant,’ Seitan said. According to the minister, authorities conduct surveys and issue normative acts that should stimulate employers increase the number of jobs, on the one hand, and recruit unemployed, on the other hand.

The unemployment rate stood at 8.1 percent in January, while the total number of unemployed registered with the county unemployment agencies reached 740,982 persons, of which 306,977 women, according to the National Employment Agency (ANOFM).

Out of the total number of unemployed registered countrywide, as many as 459,158 receive unemployment benefit, while 281,824 people have no benefit. Compared to the national unemployment rate of 8.1 percent, the women’s joblessness rate stood at 7.3 percent. The unemployment rate reached 7.8 percent in December 2009 and 4.9 percent in the January last year.
