PM Boc meets representatives of Romanian community in Bulgaria

While on an official visit to Sofia at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov, Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc met on Friday with representatives of the Romanian (Vlach) community in Bulgaria – representatives of the local Aromanians, Romanian businesspeople and citizens who work in this country, informed the government’s press office.

According to the cited source, the Prime Minister said that talks with his Bulgarian counterpart have opened all necessary communication channels to enable the Romanian community to fully enjoy its rights, especially as regards the use of Romanian language in schools. The head of the Executive in Bucharest assured the Romanian community of his full concern for supporting projects that promote the study of Romanian language, by making space available for courses, books and other teaching materials.

“We will provide non-repayable financing for supporting Romanian language and culture through programs implemented by the Department for Romanians from everywhere,” said Prime Minister Emil Boc.
The Premier also voiced optimism that following the dialogue with his Bulgarian counterpart, time slots will be ensured at the Bulgarian radio and television public broadcasting corporations for programs aired for the the Romanian community.
