Preparatory meeting ahead of Romanian ForMin’s upcoming visit to Greece

The current global economic and financial downturn, Greek investments in Romania, especially in the banking sector, the current stage and the prospects for further bilateral economic cooperation in trade, agricultural production and tourism, were among the main topics discussed on Thursday at the meeting between the Secretary of State for Global Affairs, Doru Costea, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Spyros Kouvelis.

According to a release of MAE, the meeting, also meant to contribute to the preparation of Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs’ upcoming official visit to Greece, on March 1, 2010, represented an opportunity for an open exchange of views, including on efforts and actions the governments of Romania and the Hellenic Republic need to take to counter and limit effects of the current economic and financial crisis. The Greek official is now in Romania.

During the meeting, there were approached such issues concerning developments in energy security in Europe, current priorities in development assistance, environmental protection, climate changes and post-Copenhagen development, specific issues of interest in the context of Romania and Greece participating in the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, as well as the problem of two countries working together within the European Union, in matters of current interest. The two officials also discussed bilateral cooperation in supporting projects of common interest at regional level.
