Code Yellow rain advisory for eastern and northeastern Romania

The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) issued a 24-h Code Yellow rain advisory effective as of Monday morning, for the eastern and northeastern part of Romania.

According to the ANM, starting Monday, 9:00 a.m. till Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., rainfall rates in Moldova (eastern Romania) and in the Eastern Carpathians, the mountain areas of Maramures (north), Bistrita-Nasaud (north), Mures, Harghita and Covasna (all three in center Romania) are expected to locally exceed 20 liters per square meter and even 40 liters per square meter in particular spots.

The Code Yellow heavy rain advisory refers to 13 counties: Maramures, Bistrita-Nasaud, Mures, Covasna, Harghita, Suceava (north-east), Botosani (northeast), Iasi, Neamt, Bacau, Vaslui, Vrancea, Galati (all of them in eastern Romania). According to weather experts, atmospheric instability will be higher in the country center and south, with rain showers coming along with lightning, wind gusts and possibly hail.
