The American antimissile system will be set up at the air base at Deveselu, Olt County (southern Romania), said President Traian Basescu on Tuesday after a Supreme Council of National Defence convened on Monday evening.
‘We have approved that the location for the antimissile system to be set up should be the former air base at Deveselu, in Olt County. The air base stays under the Romanian command and part of the area of the base will be used by the American antimissile system,’ said President Basescu.
CSAT approved the use of the Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport and the Constanta Port (both in south-eastern Romania) for transit to and from Iraq and Afghanistan, President Traian Basescu also reported.
‘This was a meeting that discussed two points on the agenda. The first related to the US request to use the Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport and the Constanta Port as transit infrastructure for the carriage of troops and military hardware to and from Iraq and Afghanistan, and also for the carriage of troops and military hardware from Iraq and Afghanistan to Europe.
This way, the Kogalniceanu Airport and the Constanta Port become two strategic infrastructures to the US as well, besides being so to Romania,’ said Basescu.
