President Basescu congratulates Ellen Tauscher for US Government success in Osama bin Laden case
President Traian Basescu at the Cotroceni Palace on Tuesday received the visit of US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ellen Tauscher and congratulated her on the occasion for the US Government success in the case of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
‘We took note of the remarkable success of the US Government. It is the beginning of the end, let us hope, and an extraordinary moment for what is currently going on in the entire Arab world,’ President Basescu said.
In her turn, Tauscher mentioned that the killing of bin Laden brought peace of mind to the survivors of the attacks of September 11, 2001.
I believe it brings peace of mind to the survivors of the events of September 11 and I believe it clearly states that, if one hurts Americans, if one destroys the hopes and dreams of the American people, we shall not let that happen and, if one does that, we shall seize him, Tauscher said.
The Romanian Head of State mentioned that he saw the reactions of the people in Washington after having found about the death of the terrorist leader.
In reply, Tauscher said: It is very touching. But it is clear that without allies like you it would be very difficult to lead such a battle.
Ellen Tauscher last paid a visit to Bucharest in June last year, when Romania opened the bilateral negotiations with the USA on the necessary juridical framework for Romania’s participating in the missile defence system.
