The eighteenth Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) (central Romania) this year gathers guests from 70 countries and presents 350 events taking place in 60 venues, where around 60,000 spectators are expected daily, festival director Constantin Chiriac told a press conference at the Lowendal Foundation headquarters in Bucharest on Thursday.
This year, the festival taking place in the period May 27-June 5 starts with an itinerant performance, ‘Ispita Cioran’ (Cioran Temptation), a production of the Radu Stanca National Theatre.
This year’s festival introduces a new section for the first time, Theatre/Film, therefore completing the 12 sections of the festival.According to Chiriac, the ‘young zone’ will be extended, with shows performed on the streets, in squares, on the boulevard or in parks.
The festival of Sibiu was the birthplace of the first open market for performances in Romania, 13 years ago. Gathering professionals of the performing arts, theatre, dance, music, circus, from Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, the Open Market for Performances of Sibiu is an annual event, taking place over a three-day period.
