PSD MEPs ask EU institutions and EPP to publicly condemn „Szeckler land”
The leader of the MEPs PSD / Social Democratic Party, opposition / group Catalin Ivan, requires EU institutions and the European Parliament EPP group to condemn MEPs UDMR public initiative to open a representation of the „Szeckler land” in Brussels.
PSD MEPs Group sent a letter to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, Hungarian Presidency of the EU and EP president Jerzy Buzek on the subject of the so-called „Szeckler land” representation in Brussels, requesting their official reaction „in the spirit of full compliance with EU law, defence of the interests of a Member State faced with a chauvinistic, separatist and unacceptable challenge „, says a press release sent by Catalin Ivan to Agerpres.
„MEPs strongly condemn the initiative of three UDMR members, members of the EP, characterized as defiant, and profoundly anti-European and anti-Romanian. Also, PSD MEPs condemn the lack of response of the current power representatives following this event with a clearly anti-national character. At the same time, the PSD group in the EP requires a formal point of view of the EPP, under the aegis of which the initiative of setting up a representative office in Brussels of the Szeckler land was carried out”, the release also says.
Social Democrats in the EP argue that such requests occur on the background of a lack of response on the part of national authorities.
