„Merlin – The Medieval World Hero” premiere at Sighisoara Festival sees success

The show „Merlin – The Medieval World Hero” inspired by a classic story about King Arthur, the Round Table knights and the Wizard Merlin – that premiered at the current 19th edition of the Medieval Festival of Sighisoara (center Romania) enjoys a sound success.

The play featuring no less than 120 actors is the first production especially conceived for a medieval festival in Romania, and was masterminded by Medieval Sighisoara event director Liviu Pancu; the show was followed on the first day by several thousand spectators.

”When I lodged the project for the artistic management of the 2011 Sighisoara Medieval Festival I wondered what might give me satisfaction. And I realized that the event timeline is an overly used system and this is where the idea of a festival-show ensued from. So, the 19 edition of the Sighisoara Festival marks the first time in Romania when a show is specifically designed for the respective edition. We were caught by this subject – ‘Merlin – hero of the medieval world,” said the director.

He added that he wants everyone who comes to the festival to make a journey back in time, when justice, honesty, truth and beauty were the values of utmost importance.

„We live very tough times and I think it is very important that we are able to go back somewhere to a place of our own,” said Pancu
