The Romanian Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Hunor Kelemen and President of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) Horia-Roman Patapievici will participate, on Tuesday evening, in the opening ceremony of Liber 2011 International Book Fair, the most important event of the Spanish publishing world.
Romania is, as a first, a guest of honor country at Liber International Book Fair, the most important event of its kind in Spain, held this year in Madrid on October 5-7.
At IFEMA, an important exhibition space in the Capital of Spain, Romania will have a national stand of large dimensions, with a distinctive architecture, organized by ICR Madrid and the National Book Center of the ICR.
The latest books published in Romania are to be presented in this event, as well as the books which were a success with the public and literary critics, arts and travel albums, and books published in Spain in recent years with ICR support, based on translation support programs.
More than 1,300 titles from 30 publishers in Romania are going to be displayed and over 40 translations from the Romanian language of the publishing houses in Spain with support from the programs implemented by the ICR through the National Book Centre.
With over 40 published titles, Spain is currently the European country with the highest number of translations from the Romanian literature.
ICR in Madrid is organizing until October 9 a series of events that will mark Romania’s presence at the fair.
Promoting Romanian literature is one of the main strategic directions of ICR Madrid this year, declared by the Institute as the „Romanian Literature Year in Spain”, and the presence of Romania as a guest of the Liber International Book Fair in Madrid represents an opportunity to broaden the perception horizon in respect of the Romanian culture and literature in the Iberian space.
