Romanian President Traian Basescu told visiting German Baden-Wurttemberg Land Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann that the Danube Strategy arguably is most important thing „generated together” by the Romanians and Germans.
„Welcome to Bucharest. The fact that you are visiting Romania rather shortly after having taken up as the land prime minister is a good sign for us. You certainly know there is a tradition of such cooperation and the most important thing we generated together arguably was the Danube Strategy. Thank you for the attention you pay to continuing the partnership”, said Basescu at the start of the meeting with Kretschmann.
The Baden-Wurttemberg Land Prime Minister thanked the Romanian head of state for the warm welcome.
„I believe that the Strategy for the Danube Region indeed represents a priority project for us all, for economic and educational development or for cultural development. I consider it to be a priority project, the more so since we are at a time of crisis reigning in Europe”, he said.
Baden-Wurttemberg is one of the top-three German lands by economic exchanges with Romania. A Romania-Baden-Wurttemberg Governmental Joint Commission has been set up to chiefly promote the economic relations; the body meets every year and pursues the development of projects in areas of common interest.
