Rasmussen: I appreciate Romania continuing to take part in our operations despite difficult economic situation
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Monday that Romania was a country boasting a valuable military tradition and appreciated the fact that it went on taking part in the operations of the Alliance despite its difficult situation at present.
I am thanking you very much for having received me in Bucharest. I am particularly happy to be again in Romania. I want to thank Romania for its having hosted this session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Romania is a country boasting a valuable and proud military tradition and your contribution is quite important in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Libya.
I am thanking you for this engagement and want to mention here the special service and the sacrifices made by your troops.
I want to appreciate in a particular way the fact that you go on taking part in our operations despite this time of economic difficulties. It demonstrates your remarkable engagement to our Alliance and the fact that security is no luxury, but a necessity, said Rasmussen in a statement he made at the Cotroceni Palace at the end of the meeting with President Traian Basescu.
He appreciated the fact that Romania hosting some elements of the American antimissile defence system was a „significant contribution’ to the security of the Alliance.
