Gov’t adopts draft law on ratification of Romania-US antimissile shield agreement
The Government in its weekly meeting adopted the drat law concerning the ratification of the Agreement between Romania and the US on the deployment of the US anti-missile defence system to Romania, by requesting the Parliament to use the emergency procedure for adopting this bill.
Romania’s Prime Minister Emil Boc stressed the fact that the document must be adopted by the end of this year.
„The request addressed to Romania’s Parliament is to adopt the drat law concerning the ratification of the Agreement between Romania and the US in an emergency procedure, so that the procedure to be carried out in both Parliament’s Chambers by the end of this year. I am positive there will be a majority vote sufficient for this bill of strategic-national importance to be adopted both by the ruling parties and the opposition within the aforementioned legal framework by the end of the year. This is the most important security guarantee Romania has ever had across its entire history. And this must be approached with maximum responsibility by our whole political spectrum,” Prime Minister Boc said.
In addition, Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi underscored the fact that the Romanian-US relations reached a new peak thanks to the signing of this agreement.
In his turn, Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea stressed the importance of adopting as soon as possible this international document, ensuring security guarantees not only for the national territory, but also for „Europe’s territory”.
