Romanian billionaires’ wealth diminishes 11 percent and represents 20.91 percent of GDP
The wealth of the wealthiest Romanians amounts to 25.1 billion euros (20.91 percent of the GDP), having diminished 11 percent from the previous year (3.1 billion euros), according to the 2011 issue of Forbes Romania 500 Billionaires chart.
The top ten Romanians in the chart concentrate almost one third of the total wealth of the 500 persons in this ranking, accounting for 8.5 billion euros. The average fortune stands at 50.2 million euros, 6.2 million euros lower compared with the previous issue of the chart. Out of the 500 Romanian billionaires, 484 have built their fortunes from scrap.
Forbes Romania 500 Billionaires in 2011 places Dinu Patriciu first for the third year in a row, an investor in media, energy, real estate, banking and IT&C, with an estimated fortune of 2.1-2.2 billion euros. Compared with the previous year, his wealth decreased 100 million euros.
Frank Timis is ranked second, with a 1.2-1.3 billion-euro estimated fortune, increasing 100 million. His investments are in oil and ore extraction, pharmacy and research.
The chart continues with Ioan Niculae – 0.9-1 billion euros, Dan Grigorescu Adamescu, 900-950 million euros, Ion Tiriac, 700-750 million euros, Veronica Gusa de Dragan 650-700 million euros, Gabriel Comenescu 500-520 million euros, Stoica Gruia, 400-420 million euros, Dorinel Umbrarescu 350-380 million euros, Zoltan Teszari, 350-360 million euros.
Thirty-three billionaires entered the 2011 issue of the Forbes chart and the number of women increased from 30 to 50. The capital concentrates most of the rich Romanian people – 212. The billionaires’ average age is 41.2 years. The youngest is Edward Popescu, 28, and the oldest are Josef Goschy and Mircea Laba (80 years old).
The 500-ranked has an estimated fortune of 6-7 million euros.
The wealthiest politicians ranked in this chart are Robert Negoita, with 60-70 million euros, Attila Verestoy, 60 million euros, Adriean Videanu 37-38 million euros, Silviu Prigoana, 27-29 million euros, Dan Radu Rusanu, 18-19 million euros, Elena Udrea, 11-12 million euros.
