Athletics: Romania scoops 15 gold, silver and bronze medals at Indoor Balkan Championships

The Indoor Athletics Balkan Championships got Romania 15 medals on Saturday, out of which two gold won by Cristina Bujin at triple jump and Adrian Trifan, at 3,000 meters race, seven silver and six bronze medals at Atakoy Athletics Arena in Istanbul, at the 14th edition of the Indoor World Athletics Championships.

Bujin won the Balkan triple jump title with 14.04 meters, while Trifan won the 3,000 meters race clocking 8’11”36/100.

The silver medals were scooped in women’s events by Ioana Doaga, at 1,500 m with 4’10″74/100; Esthera Petre, high jump with 1.91 m, Andreea Ograzeanu at 60 m with 7″44/100, Cornelia Deiac long jump with 6.22 m.

The silver medal winners at men’s events were Marian Oprea, triple jump, 16.43 m, Ionut Zaizan, 800 m with 1’51″43/100 and Valentin Toboc, long jump, 7.64 m.

The bronze winners are Alina Panainte (400 m – 54″41/100), Elena Moaga (3,000 m – 9’46″15/100), Simona Neata (weight throw – 14.54 m), Alexandru Tufa (high jump – 2.18 m), Catalin Campeanu (400 m – 47″95/100) and Levente Zoltan Kecskes (pole vault – 4.60 m).

Taking part in the competitions were athletes from 11 Balkan countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Bosnia, Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegru, Romania, Serbia and Turkey, with this region being the world’s first to have organised inter-country athletics competitions.
