Romanian Bianca Perie won the national champion title for hammer throwing with 68.84 metres on the last day of the National Championship of Long Throws, after having won the gold medal at the Europe Cup of long throws in Bar, Montenegro, last weekend.
Her throw was by 10 centimetres longer than the one in Montenegro (68.74 m).
This progress augurs well for Perie, the only four-time world athletics junior champion, who last year ranked an excellent 6th with 72.04 m at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, ahead of the Olympic Games in London this summer, where she has already qualified, given she has achieved the over-70-metre bar.
Another exceptional athlete, Nicoleta Grasu, won the national champion title for discus throwing with 60.58 m.
Maria Negoita won the spear throw event at the three-day National Championship with 53.99 m.
In men’s events, Cosmin Sorescu (CSM Craiova club) won the hammer throw with 65.31 m, Sergiu Ursu (CS Dinamo Bucharest) won the discus throw with 59.29 m and Alexandru Craescu (CSM Bacau) came top at spear throw with 71.53 m.
