CSAT approves Romania’s mandate for NATO Chicago Summit

The Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) on Thursday approved Romania’s mandate for the NATO summit meeting to be held on May 20-21, in Chicago, the USA.

‘The CSAT analysed and approved Romania’s mandate for the NATO summit meeting to be held on May 20-21, in Chicago, the USA, which main lines are ballistic missile defence; continuing the commitment of the world community to Afghanistan; identifying viable solutions that will consolidate the NATO’s military capabilities; the NATO partnership policy and expansion policy; reiterating the importance of the enlarged Black Sea region; reiterating support for securing an increased part of the NATO in managing the new challenges that have an impact on NATO security,’ reads a press release issued by the Presidential Administration.

CSAT convened in session on Thursday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace under the chairmanship of President Traian Basescu.

Attending the meeting were Prime Minister Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu; Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea; Minister of Administration and Interior Gabriel Berca; Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu; Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu; Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Milieu Lucian Bode; Finance Minister Bogdan Dragoi; Director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior; Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) Teodor Melescanu; Chief of Romania’s Major Army Staff Stefan Danila; presidential adviser on national security Iulian Fota; CSAT Secretary Ion Oprisor.
