Officials of EC and of 15 states to attend „Friends of the Cohesion” conference in Bucharest
High officials from the European Commission and from fifteen countries are expected on Friday in Bucharest for the conference where all the prime-ministers of the states forming the „Friends of the Cohesion” group are meeting to discuss the Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union 2014-2020.
Officials from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain are expected at the Bucharest meeting.
During the conference, sessions of talks and meetings will take place among the officials of the sixteen states.
President Traian Basescu will welcome President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso at Cotroceni Palace at 2:50 pm.
The event brings together the countries interested in maintaining the EU cohesion policy, in the context of the talks on the new financial framework 2014-2020.
Romania is one of the states supporting the cohesion policy, whose target is to maintain the policies by which the less developed states are being allocated funds to reach the average development level throughout the EU.
This meeting will also represent a preparation for the European Council in June, where the new European financial framework will be discussed as well.
The government allocates 293,000 RON the preparation and organisation of the conference which brings together all the prime minister in the states forming the „Friends of the Cohesion” group, according to a resolution adopted last Wednesday. The money comes from the budget of the Government General Secretariat on 2012. According to the resolution, the organisation of the event will be provided by SCG and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
